“I, the LORD, your God, teach you what is for your good, and lead you on the way you should go.” The book of the prophet Isaiah has been full of imagery and poetic text that reminds us of God’s relationship with the people of Israel.

As with many of our daily relationships, God’s relationship with the Hebrews had its ups and downs throughout the Old Testament. We also read in today’s selection  “If you would hearken to my commandments, your prosperity would be like a river”. Maybe we think “If it was only that easy.”

What if just by doing right, we prospered? And everything fell into place? These are questions that people have asked for ages. By following the way God sets before us, our guarantee is God’s love, mercy, and support. The challenges we face don’t end because of our faithfulness to God. That faithfulness to God in relationship lifts us up and is a living symbol of hope as we move forward. It is a witness to others who see us as an example.

God, what command do you give me today? Which is the way that I should go?
